Here we are in the heart of winter (there is a light at the end of the tunnel!) and we’re chatting with you about extreme heat and lawn health. Well, there’s never a bad time to talk about until it’s too late!
In the full-on heat of the summer, when the temperatures are high and the rain fall is insignificant, your lawn can really start to feel the strain. You’ll even see that strain. But with less rain and maybe even some water restrictions in place, there are some things you can do to help keep your lawn from becoming unhealthy.
Mower Blades
Raise your blades! The taller your grass is, the more protection it can provide from the blazing sun — thus, growing deeper roots. Deeper rooted grass can be more resilient.
To Bag or To Mulch?
Instead of bagging the clippings, use a mulching mower. The clippings can help keep the moisture down where the grass needs it most.
Aerate x 2
This coming spring, aerate the lawn. Do it again in the fall.
Don’t Stress Out Your Grass!
Sharpen your mower blade, this reduces grass stress.
Water Earlier
Before the true heat and wind have a chance to pick up, water your lawn early. Green is definitely a color to envy in the heart of the summer. Do yourself a favor and follow these tips to keep a green lawn that makes your neighbors squirm with envy.
