Watering Your Lawn Properly

Grasshopper Gardens - Thursday, August 24, 2017
During the spring and summer months we spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying the sunshine, watering your lawn properly will help ensure it gets plenty of enjoyment as well.

Water 2-3 Times Per Week:
Watering your grass daily will give you a shallow root system which can cause winter stress and making it more susceptible to winter damage.
Lawns Need 1” – 1 ½” of Water Per Week: If your lawn is dry, it will go into the winter being stressed and more susceptible to winter damage. The Capital District saw quite a lot of rain during May, for times such as this, it’s best to check the forecast prior to watering your lawn. If storms are in the forecast, it’s possible you won’t need to water your lawn.
Water Earlier in the Day: You want your lawn to dry completely before nightfall, as a lawn that is regularly wet at night can lead to fungus and disease problems. When possible, water your lawn early in the morning.
Monitor Your Sprinklers: Sprinklers are amazing, as long as they are working properly. It is important to have your sprinklers maintained and to also make sure they are covering the appropriate amount of your lawn.
Brown Areas: If your lawn has brown areas, and they are not responding to proper care and maintenance, you may have a different problem. In these situations, we urge you to reach out to the professionals of Grasshopper Gardens.

We’ve seen quite a bit of rainfall in the Capital District, it is imperative you know how to care for your lawn during these times. For more information, or to get started on your next landscape project, contact Grasshopper Gardens today!
