Grasshopper Gardens provides environmental landscape services to customers living in Albany, Saratoga Springs, and many other Upstate New York communities. We have many years of experience and knowledge of plants, soils, seeding and erosion control. We are properly trained and certified and ready to work on several types of environmentally sensitive sites.
Our Environmental Services Include:
Wetland Restoration and Planting
All wetlands must share three basic characteristics:
- There must be water present or near the surface of the ground for a portion of the year
- There must be plants adapted to wet conditions
- There must be a soil type that develops from wet conditions (hydric soils)
Our wetland restoration efforts include installing native plants, disabling drainage tiles to re-flood former wetlands, removing invasive and undesirable invasive species, providing erosion control, and enhancing any riparian buffer zones.
Slope Erosion and Sediment Control
Grasshopper Gardens uses innovative techniques and technology to restore areas affected by erosion. We operate within the New York State standards and specifications for erosion and sediment control to restore areas impacted by construction, industrial activities and more. Some methods we use include seeding and mulching, installing drainage systems, silt fences, and sediment basin construction.
Compost Blankets
Compost blankets are typically placed on up to 2:1—and sometimes more severe—slopes at an application rate of 1–2 inches in depth. They are used to reduce wind and water erosion, prevent soil compaction, slow the flow of water over the surface of the soil, and improve soil texture, among many other benefits. The nature of the product allows for extensive rooting of the grass and other vegetation, locking the blanket to the slope and protecting the soil beneath it.
Shoreline and Bank Stabilization
We provide bank stabilization methods to protect calm-water shorelines throughout the capital region. Through the use of rock, synthetic materials, and vegetation we’re able to slow the effects of erosion and restore shorelines. Geotextile fabrics, compost filter socks, and poly-mesh products are used in areas with steep slopes. We use native plants to provide a more natural source of protection and stabilize calm-water banks that are not along steep slopes. We can also proactively install rocks as an added layer of protection.
Grasshopper Gardens has extensive experience providing environmental services to those in and around the capital region.
